I use handbuilding techniques to create ceramic sculptures out of porcelain and terra cotta that examine the complexities of a lived experience. An  investigation into how physical forms—and the deliberate labor behind them—navigate the chaos of modern identity. Set in dialogue with the viewer I construct distinct internal worlds to mediate the relationship to an unpredictable environment, examining the delicate balance between structural containment and personal freedom, visibility and privacy, and the physical body in relation to the contemporary chaos of the world. Handbuilding offers me a deliberate, physical method to negotiate control with the clay—a material that inherently possesses its own resistance, particularly during the firing process. This technique grants me the freedom to invite experimentation, intuitive gestures, and distinct surface treatments into each piece from delicate sgraffito linework to deeply pierced lattices.
